The Obesity Epidemic
Obesity has certainly reached epidemic proportions in the developed world and despite all the best laid plans to deal with the problem it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Many people simply do not know how to lose weight
So what are the issues involved here?
* People are leading more sedentary lives
* More women are working full time and have less time to prepare nutritious, healthy meals for the family.
* Food manufacturers are tantalizing our taste buds with high fat snack foods such as crisps and biscuits
* Junk food is being given to young children and they are getting used to the tastes from a very early age.
* We consume far too many sweet foods causing hyper-insulinism
* Inaccurate dietary advice is being given to people who are overweight resulting in confusion.
* Insufficient kudos is given to the need for a structured exercise program so ensure that the fat is converted to lean muscle.
These are just a few of the issues that are contributing to the obesity problem and the need for thousands of people to lose weight.
Many people who have been diagnosed as being obese are also suffering from a variety of different illnesses including heart disease and diabetes. Very often these illnesses provide the catalyst needed for people to address their obesity problem and embark on a program to change their dietary habits and lose weight. The healthy diet required to address the illness is often the same diet required to help them to lose weight.
So many people are ill informed. They have no idea of the harm they are doing to themselves when they eat poorly balanced diets. They think they diet foods are good for them when in fact the reverse is true and these foods are actually contributing to their obesity.
Although a certain sympathy is appropriate for those people who apparently “know no better”, it is incumbent upon all of us to be well informed and to be in a position to make educated choices.
Prevention is always better than cure, but if you are already in the unfortunate position of being overweight you have a second chance to reverse the situation, to learn how to lose weight quickly and improve your overall health

Lose Weight
We live in a consumer society. We are bombarded on a daily basis with adverts either on the TV in magazines and newspapers or in our local shops and shopping malls. It is harder than ever to resist the temptation. The food industry have also jumped on the band wagon with their many culinary delights to tempt our taste buds.
Unfortunately many people have succumbed to this ploy and these processed foods along with other poor dietary habits have resulted in an epidemic of obesity previously never experienced in our world.
Two out of three American citizens are classed as overweight, whereas as many as one in three have been diagnosed as clinically obese. Between $50 billion and $90 billion are spent each year on products and services to lose weight, including diet foods and drinks, slimming clubs and centers, and surgery to name but a few.
Despite the fact that all this money is spent on an annual basis the weight loss problem refuses to go away. So why are we getting such poor results from the various methods employed to help people to lose weight.
As well as our everyday foods, diet foods are also highly processed and are virtually devoid of any vital nutrients. Some of them even contain ingredients that may compromise not only your ability to lose weight but also your health.
Many of the products available on our supermarket shelves will say low sugar or sugar free. What they fail to ake clear is that these products that contain artificial sweeteners which are now thought to be responsible for many diet failures. In fact they may even be responsible for people putting on weight in the first place.
People who join slimming clubs or visit fat farms can do very well initially but unfortunately they have a tendency not to last. Fat farms are relatively easy to take part in when you are being motivated and have the support of fellow dieters.
Once the participant has returned home, the attempt to lose weight loses its appeal and things slowly return to normal. Similarly with slimming clubs, the initial commitment to attend weekly meetings starts with a bang, but this enthusiasm can wane and once the participant has missed a week or two, the resolve to lose weight starts to slowly disappear.
Apparently there is a 95% failure rate with most weight loss programs.
There are 2 crucial things you need to remember if you are to experience success with your desire to know how to lose weight.
1. To eat the right foods for your metabolic type
2. To do at least 20-30 mins exercise a day
If you feel you need an extra boost to help you to lose weight, then you can consider taking one or two of the recommended natural supplements aimed at enhancing your weight loss program.
As blood sugar is often a major problem for people who are overweight then it would be advisable to supplement with chromium as this will help to stabalise your blood sugar levels
There are many other ingredients known for their ability to help you to lose weight, including for example:- Garcinia Cambogia, Apple Cider Vinegar and Cayenne Pepper. The combinations of ingredients available depends largely on the individual proprietary brand.
There is also a school of thought that believes cider vinegar alone can help you to lose weight, especially if sipped slowly as you eat your meals

Lose Weight
Are you someone who really needs to lose weight? There are too many people who fail to understand the seriousness of being overweight. The “jolly fat person” persona has been around for more years than I care to remember. What that jolly fat person didn’t take seriously was that being obese can actually lead to many life threatening diseases.
Healthy diets and exercise can help people maintain a healthy weight, and may also help them lose weight. It is important to recognize that overweight is a chronic condition which can only be controlled with long-term changes. Healthy eating and regular physical activity are keys to a healthy lifestyle and weight management. There is no one best diet for everybody. Healthy diet: It is important to be sure that you learn how to lose weight in a safe and healthy way. Try not to rely on diets but instead adjust your eating habits for a healthy well balanced diet.
Diet pills you can buy over-the-counter don’t make much of a difference in how much weight you lose, how fast you lose it, or how long you keep the weight off. Some diet pills can raise your blood pressure. Dieting may conjure up visions of eating little but lettuce and sprouts, but you can enjoy all foods as part of a healthy diet as long as you don’t overdo it. To successfully lose weight, you need to change your lifestyle–not just go on a diet, experts say. Dietary fiber is important too, both soluble and insoluble. Beans, apples, oats, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds provide useful amounts of fiber.
Dieting seems to be one of the popular means of losing weight, but I don’t believe diets
really work effectively unless done the healthy way. The stress of not eating as much as you want makes your system more acidic. Diets that provide less than 800 calories per day also could result in heart rhythm abnormalities, which can be fatal. Therefore, strive to lose weight in a healthy manner.
The AAFP Panel on Overweight and Obesity recommends that the MI (Body Mass Index) become a new vital sign, to be recorded during routine visits to the doctors’ office. Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Because most fast-weight-loss diets require drastic changes in eating patterns, you can’t stay on them for long. Physical activity and a healthy diet go hand in hand. I’m sorry, but I don’t care if you’re sitting on the couch snacking on truffles or whole wheat pitta slices with soy-based hummus, you will still need to get out there and get moving at some point in order to tighten the loose skin from the areas where you’ve lost the weight. To successfully lose weight and look good your exercise routine is paramount

Where do you stand on the supplement versus diet pill debate?
Although many people are tempted to use slimming pills to help them to lose weight, it really isn’t necessary as there are some very successful supplements available that will do a much better job and will be altogether a more healthy option.
If you want to know how to lose weight and keep it off permanently you need to burn off the fat and convert it into lean muscle. The crucial part of the weight control equation is to make energy efficiently. Magnesium is particularly important for blood sugar control and burning carbohydrate for energy rather than storing it as fat.
As you get older you are less likely to be getting enough chromium, the essential mineral that helps stabalize blood sugar levels and appetite. Ultimately this will affect your body’s ability to lose weight.
It works by inhibiting the enzyme that converts sugar into fat. In a trial conducted by the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands HCA was found to be a powerful appetite suppressant which encouraged people to lose weight without any harmful effects.
Two of the most powerful appetite controllers are your blood sugar levels and your brains level of serotonin. Serotonin is made from an amino acid called tryptophan.
Anyone who is on a weight loss program will find that their diet is notoriously low in tryptophan and so will themselves have abnormally low levels. This helps to ensure you don’t have an increase in appetite due to blood sugar dips.
As with all things it can be a careful balancing act, as too much insulin drives blood sugar into body fat, whereas too little means low serotonin levels and increased carbohydrate cravings. Taking the appropriate supplementation can help to achieve this balance and ensure that you maximise your ability to lose weight.
Very often people who are overweight have tried all the diets in the book. They will try anything rather than take a long hard look at the food they are eating and admit that they have an unhealthy, unbalanced diet. Meridia is a medication that is often used to help people lose weight. Those who use Meridia will usually be prescribed this medication by a doctor. Thankfully this particular medication is usually administered along with a regular diet and exercise plan. Usually
Meridia is a weight loss pill prescribed to patients who are at least 30 pounds overweight. It is not the medication itself that is meant to help patients. Rather, it is both the drug and regular dieting and exercise that is meant to help patients reach a more ideal and healthy weight.
On a cautionary note, there are many side effects associated with this drug and those who take it could possibly develop high blood pressure or fast heart rate. Also, it is not recommended for patients who suffer from any one of the following conditions: heart disease, kidney trouble, hypertension, or epilepsy. The most common side effects of this drug are dry mouth, anorexia, constipation, and insomnia. This drug is known to be habit-forming as well, and is classified as a controlled substance. It is not recommended for those with a history of drug abuse.
However it is much better to view your weight loss diet in a holistic way. Diet pills have a habit of turning your weight problem into an illness and they are seen as a quick fix without the need to make substantial dietary changes for the rest of your life. If you want to lose weight successfully then choose the more natural supplement option.

Lose Weight
The UK Weight loss industry is now worth a billion pounds as obesity levels reach an all time high and is continuing to rise. According to the health Survey for England 2006, around 25% of the adult population is obese. If the trend continues 60% of men and 50% of women will be obese by 2050. The problem is even worse in the USA where one third of the adult population is obese. Even more concerning are the statistics for childhood obesity where the figures for the UK show that 18% of 2 – 15 year olds are obese and 14% are overweight. Clearly if something isn’t done to help these youngsters to lose weight fast then it is likely we will be looking at a possible 66% of obese youngsters by 2050.
It is very important to be aware that overweight people do not just need to lose weight so that they can fit into smaller clothes or look aesthetically more attractive. They need to know how to lose weight so that they can avoid serious diseases such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.
So is it true that obesity is due purely to poor dietary habits? One of the reasons that many people fail to lose weight is that they eat too much of the wrong type of foods and don’t exercise enough. Too many energy dense fast foods that will just pile on the pounds coupled with an overdependence on cars and other forms of transport is basically a recipe for disaster and will do little to help the obese or overweight person lose weight.
However recently researchers identified a variant of the FTO (fat mass and obesity related) gene and discovered that those carrying two copies of the gene weighed about half a stone more than those who did not. This may go some small way to explain why some of us put weight on more easily than others. However this finding is not to be used as an excuse for obesity. Although it may lead to new and more effective approaches to weight loss, the most sensible approach for all overweight people will always be to eat a well balanced healthy diet and get plenty of appropriate exercise. This way you will undoubtedly lose weight whether you have the gene of not.

Lose Weight Fast: How to Do It Safely
If you ask any nutritional expert they will tell you that fad diets don’t work for permanent weight loss. But what about those times when you really need to lose weight fast? It can be very tempting to resort to crash diets like the Lemonade Diet, Cabbage Soup Diet, or Lose 21 Pounds in 21 Days when your goal is to wear a new outfit for tht special occasion
So what’s wrong with losing 20 pounds fast so you can show off your new sylph like shape? To be perfectly honest nothing is wrong with trying to lose weight quickly – as long you do it the right way.
Losing weight is a simple mathematical formula: You need to burn more calories than you eat. If you are able to either burn off 500 calories a day or eat 500 less calories you should be able to lose 1-2 lbs a week. A combination of the two would be the ideal.
So basically if you want to lose weight fast, you’ll need to eat less and exercise more. I would suggest 1,200 calories a day and ¾ -1 hour of exercise a day. On this type of plan, you may to lose 3-5 pounds the first week, though some of this will be water.
Here are some weight loss tips to help you lose weight fast
* Eat plenty of low-calorie vegetables to help you feel full.
* Drink plenty of water so you don’t confuse hunger with thirst.
* Clear the house of tempting foods.
* Stay busy to prevent eating out of boredom.
* Eat only from a plate, while seated at a table.
* Always eat three meals and one snack daily – no skipping meals.
Weighing yourself daily and tracking your food intake can also help you keep focused. Keep a food diary. It is amazing what you forget you have eaten!!
Don’t worry if you feel hungry between meals as a high quality protein snack can actually help to increase your metabolic rate and help you to lose weight.
